Very often, we will be ingesting fat soluble chemicals through food, water as well as the environment. These need to be removed from the body through a detox diet. A body that is full of toxins is susceptible to problems like hormonal imbalance, impaired immune function, nutritional deficiency, and an inefficient metabolism. These problems manifest themselves in the form of fatigue, poor skin and pain.
A detox diet introduces foods which are a source of vitamins, nutrients and antioxidants into your diet, to help detoxify you body. During this diet you will be required to take in food which increases the frequency of bowel movements and urination, so that the toxins within your body can be removed.
You will find many types of detox diets available. For example, one detox diet may require you to eat only fruits and vegetable, while another needs only clean foods. Detox diets can prescribe eating only fruit juice and vegetable juice or be severe enough to suggest only drinking water to detoxify the body. There are also detox diets available that specially cleanses specific parts of the body like the kidneys, blood, lungs and the liver.
To understand what a detox diet menu involves, let’s take a sample detox diet menu. As you wake up you will need to, mix lemon juice (half a lemon) in warm water and drink it, after which you should have tablespoon of bentonite clay and one tablespoon of ground flaxseeds, mixed in a glass of water. Your breakfast will include fruit, rice milk and rice protein powder and Vitamin C as supplement. In between snacks include, apple juice (diluted with water), celery sticks, hummus, and vegetable broth.
Lunch will consist of vegetable soup made with vegetable stock and your choice of vegetables, steamed broccoli with sesame seeds and beets sprinkled with lemon juice, and apple sauce. The whole meal will be supplemented with multivitamins. Dinner will include salad with mixed greens, red peppers, artichokes and sprouts drizzled with salad dressing of garlic, lemon juice and olive oil and vegetable broth.
A detox diet is basically short term and aims to reduce the quantity of chemicals you ingest into your body, by replacing foods which can induce toxins into your body, with foods which are cleaner, such as organic foods. People who have taken this diet report better energy levels, clearer skin, regular bowel movements, improved digestion, and increased concentration and clarity.
