Can you lose weight with Green Tea?

Green tea is a traditional Chinese “true” tea made of Camellia Sinensis leaves. It is also a traditional drink in Japan and also associated with many cultures in Middle Eastern countries. It has gained more popularity in the West because of its believed to be therapeutic in nature and it is considered to cure some of the simple diseases known to mankind.

In some cases, researchers have been studying to find the possible association between green tea and the reduction in the chances of heart disease and fatal chronic disease like cancer.

Some of the known but unproven benefits of green tea include the prevention of cancer including gastric, lung, colon/rectal, esophageal, pancreatic, ovarian; increase in metabolism, curing multiple sclerosis; aiding the side effects of higher cholesterol levels; antioxidant activity; cognitive enhancement; elevated blood pressure; high levels of triglycerides; lower levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL); reducing metabolic syndrome and others.

When it comes to losing weight, green tea’s (or green tea extract) effective role is still unproven scientifically. It is better that you drink a lot of water or unsweetened tea while you are on a diet.

Green tea is considered to be a natural way to suppress your appetite and it is believed to be an important way to burn off the stored fat, leading to reduce weight. With green tea, you will be able to keep your metabolism on running high is as the metabolism naturally slows down whenever you are restricting your calorie intake.

But you cannot restrict your diet to just green tea (or green tea extract). You have to choose a diet program that will allow you to drink green tea. It can be a plan with several meal structures and combinations for you to choose from but there needs to be one day when you will just have to survive on fruits, nuts and veggies, which may sound difficult.

Your meal can also be filled with fiber rich food like vegetables and fruits and at the same time you can even eat chicken, but avoid eating it with the salad dressing, which has trans-fat in excess. So you can skip coffee as green tea extract is a source of caffeine, and it is believed to replace the caffeine component in the fat burner compilation.

But how much green tea is enough to lose weight? The standard recommendation for water is to drink up to eight 8-oz glasses a day. But it depends on your weight as well and the amount of work or physical labor you do. In the case of green tea, five cups of green tea a day is something that can help you lose or burn an extra 70 to 80 extra calories through a process known as thermogenesis.

But you should know that weight loss is not equivalent to fat loss from the body. Your amount of intake of therapeutic green tea for fat loss should be able to help you cut down on the consumption of excess calories, which ultimately increase fat in the body, and with exercise you can slowly burn off the excess flab on the body.
