How to go about growing Hoodia Gordonii?

Hoodia Gordonii is grown using its seeds. In order to grow Hoodia Gordonii, you need to select a seed, which is in the right stage of maturity for propagation. A seed which is correct for growing the plant is one in which the seed horn is semi-dry and which is split right in the middle.

After selecting the seeds, you need to use sandy loamy soil, which has a small amount of well-rotted, sieved compost mixed into it. Plant the seeds not deeper than 0.5 cm. It is important not to put too many seeds into the same area, as this will damp them off, when they start to germinate. The soils used must also have provisions for adequate drainage.

Once you have planted the seeds, water them just right, using not too much water, as this will only make the seeds to rot. So, the best option would be to water the seeds about four times a week, when the temperature is about 28°C or above. During the months of winter, this should be reduced to twice a week.

The seeds should be sown during the months of March or April. During April of the following year, a small plant would have sprouted. The size of this plant will be such that you can place it is a 9 cm plastic pot, using a potting medium that provides for adequate drainage.

Once you have started to grow the plant, you will find it to grow very quickly. Hoodia Gordonii also responds very well to organic foods. After three years of growth the plant would have a height of at least 250 mm and have up to 10 branches.
