What is Low Carb Diet?

A low carbohydrate diet enables you to reduce weight by reducing your intake of carbohydrates. The reason why carbohydrates have to be reduced is that, when there is more intake of carbohydrates, blood insulin levels increase, which in turn leads to obesity.

Any low carbohydrate diet you take will replace food containing carbohydrates with food that containing more protein, fat and vegetables.  By restricting your intake of foods rich in carbohydrates, the level of insulin in your body decreases, but the level of glucagon increases. This is very significant because glucagon is a hormone that causes body fat to be burned and cholesterol to be removed from deposits in the arteries.

Going on a low carbohydrate diet does not mean, you have be bothered about only counting calories. You can eat as often as you wish to stop your sense of hunger, but you should not overeat. Once you have started on the diet, you need to ensure that, your carbohydrate forms not more than 10 percent of your daily calorie intake. You need to take only foods which are prescribed as part of the diet, as they are specifically devised in their particular combinations to help you loose weight.

You have to be aware of food with hidden sugars and carbohydrates, by consulting your health care professional, on what these foods are, to avoid them. You also need to avoid any forms of sugar, white flour and caffeine.  Your diet needs to be supplemented by vitamins and minerals, so be sure to have these in the right quantities.
