What is the Effective Part of the Hoodia Succulent?

This is a very important question because it determines how well the Hoodia Gordonii intake (be it in its natural form or in the form of Hoodia products), will work. Knowing about the effective part in Hoodia Gordonii is very important because, only the effective part of the succulent contains appetite suppressing properties.

The effective part of the plant is the Hoodia Gordonii succulent is its fleshy core (not it’s roots, the flowers, or the whole plant). It is this part of the succulent that the San Bushmen ate to suppress appetite. This is because the fleshy core contains the active ingredient named P57 which helps to suppress the appetite.

Any product which uses ground-up powder of the whole succulent or which includes its flowers and roots as part of the ingredients is not an effective Hoodia product. These parts or the whole plant as such will not contain the levels of P57 required to induce appetite suppression.  In order to avoid such products, check if the product’s label to verify if it mentions use of the succulent’s core as the ingredient.
