Where Does Hoodia Gordonii Grow in South Africa?

Hoodia Gordonii is a succulent which grows in the wild in South Africa. It has been used by the San Tribe, who live in this region for centuries as a natural appetite suppressant. Using it they survived scarcity of food and water, till they were able to procure it in their long hunting expeditions. This succulent has a wide distribution in the region of South Africa.

Hoodia Gordonii grows in the northeastern part of the Western Cape of South Africa. It also grows in the north and northwestern regions of the Northern Cape and is also found in southern Namibia. It has the capacity to survive extremely hot temperatures (40°C, typically what is seen in the desert) as well as very low temperatures (–3°C). So, Hoodia Gordonii shows the capacity to grow and survive under difficult conditions.

Another feature about Hoodia Gordonii is that is can grow under different conditions as well. Evidence of this is seen in the fact the Hoodia Gordonii is seen to grow in deep Kalahari sands as well as on dry stony slopes or flats and under the protection of xerophytic bushes in South Africa.
